Roses for WCW (2023 - )
Chalk, acrylic, graphite, and blackboard paint on panel
18” x 24” x 1.5”

In “The rose is obsolete,” William Carlos Williams writes:

But if it ends
the start is begun
so that to engage roses
becomes a geometry

In this ongoing series of works, I am engaging that geometry, but not to let the rose fall away in favor of the arbitrary symbolic sleight of hand WCW seems to propose. One rose schematic stays, another falls away, a third is revealed as different materials scuff and smear. I’m excited to see where exactly these roses are in 20 or so years.
